Madhumanti Banerjee — Bharatanatyam & Carnatic Artist
Biography
Madhumanti Banerjee is a captivating artist who has devoted her life to the classical arts of India. Her journey began in Kolkata, where her love for dance and music was kindled under the rigorous training of Shri Ramkrishna Chatterjee, one of West Bengal's foremost Bharatanatyam masters.
Seeking to deepen her practice, Madhumanti moved to Chennai — the global capital of classical Indian art — where she trained intensively under Acharya Indira Kadambi of Natyarangam, one of the most revered names in Bharatanatyam pedagogy. This formative period honed her technique, musical sensibility, and expressive range to the level of a concert-ready soloist.
Parallel to her dance training, Madhumanti pursued Carnatic classical vocal music under Vidwan T.V. Ramprasadh, developing a unique synthesis of movement and voice that distinguishes her artistic identity. The integration of Carnatic music into her Bharatanatyam practice gives her performances a rare depth of musical authenticity.
"She is a student who epitomises the true spirit of learning — her dedication, humility, and artistic sensibility are a rare combination. She will go far."
— Acharya Indira Kadambi, Natyarangam, ChennaiMadhumanti's international footprint spans productions in the United States, Thailand, Singapore, and across India. Her landmark solo productions include "MARA", "Under the Banyan", "Elements", and her critically celebrated "Ganga – A Myth or Reality?" — each a thoughtful fusion of classical grammar with contemporary narrative.
Her achievements have been recognized by premier cultural institutions: the West Bengal State Sangeet Academy, Patravadi Theatre, Bangkok, the Akhil Bharatiya Parishad, and many more. She was honored with a cover story in The Hindu, India's national newspaper of record.
In addition to her artistic pursuits, Madhumanti is a certified NASM fitness trainer and a Yoga Alliance-registered yoga instructor. Through her wellness practice and Dhimahi Nourishing Artists, she brings the same precision and mindfulness from the stage into the realm of physical and emotional wellbeing.
